I have developed and disseminated examples of simple but effective ways of teaching science concretely and creatively in the ordinary classroom.

Over the last decade, I devoted time to providing continuing professional development for teachers. I began on a small scale, arranging courses for teachers in the public school system, in the basement of the Bagarmossen School. Now I travel all over Sweden, with my PET plastic bottles and cow magnets, hoping to inspire thousands of teachers. This work has spanned the spectrum from longer commissioned courses to individual study days and short lectures.

Some of the questions we work with when I do further training for teachers are:

– How can teaching science be concrete as well as creative?
– How can we discover and utilize the hidden talents of children in the classroom?
– How can we make the invisible visible, using simple experiments and everyday equipment?
– How can we awaken interest in science and then keep that interest alive?

Diversity, variation and creativity are the themes that run through my work.

I also aim, to a very large extent, to reach teachers who do not have a great deal of previous experience in teaching physics and chemistry.

I focus on examples of what can be done in everyday classroom science teaching situations. I use short film sequeneces to exemplify the increased positive attitude towards science of the pupils. My presentations contain a strong element of humour.

It's all about discovering a good place to start – -then finding ways to go on, AND truly taking the pupils' ideas seriously.
